- and a heart-felt tribute
to one of the
band's own. The late Jay
Markley launched
the mountain area Meals
on Wheels program
31 years ago, and was also
a cornet player
with the popular western
Carolina musical
organization for nearly
a decade.

Owen Senior Joins Smoky Mountain Brass Band
for Performance at School
February 19th
BLACK MOUNTAIN , NC (February 2, 2006) -- When the Smoky Mountain
Brass Band played at Owen High School last
year, Steven Mason, a student, was part of
the enthusiastic audience. The band is back
at Owen February 19th at 3 p.m. and this
time Mason, now a senior, will be on stage
himself, playing the B Flat tuba and relishing
his new role as part of the popular and respected
ensemble.
